As a boy, Jesse Emerson loved the athletics, drama, violence and action of professional wrestling. His wrestling inspirations include WWE legends Shawn Michaels, Curt Henning, and Rick Rude. He watched and attended wrestling shows throughout high school and college, which was where he started to seriously consider becoming a wrestler.

Jesse has always been a champion athlete. At Hamilton Southeastern High School, he was all-county in track and broke 4 swimming records, becoming a multiple-time state finalist and medal winner, and holding a yet-unchallenged position on the school's wall of fame. In college, Jesse broke 3 more swimming records and became an 11-time all-conference athlete and member of the National Team in swimming. During this time, he also earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics.

Despite these achievements, though, he was not picked for the WWE's training program and reality show Tough Enough after a series of grueling try-outs. Determined not to let this setback hinder his career, Jesse took matters into his own hands and researched local wrestling schools. He attended OVW (Ohio Vally Wrestling) in Louisville, KY for proper wrestling training beginning in March 2005 where Jesse spent 13 weeks training under the guidance of WWE's Mike Mondo in a beginners' class. He left OVW after the course ended to attend law school at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. While there, he trained under Will Owens, which led to his first singles match in September 2006, just one year after arriving in Alabama.

Jesse remembers training "old school" style, where training sessions were held in a storage shed in the Alabama heat. He considers these sessions "extremely hot and rugged," with trainers who were rough on the wrestlers. But he praises them for teaching him "correctly and the right way." Jesse's hard work and athleticism paid off, as he has won several titles on the independent wrestling circuit and has worked as an extra for the WWE three times. One of his biggest wrestling honors to date is wrestling at the Nashville, TN fairgrounds (TNA's old Asylum), which is a building Hulk Hogan, Jerry Lawler, and many other southern wrestling legends have competed in.

In addition to these feats of athletics and intelligence, Jesse "The Perfect Specimen" Emerson plays the piano and is "conversationally fluent" in Spanish. His motto is a quote from the author F. Scott Fitzgerald -- "There are no second acts in American lives."
